Writer's Block: A real eye opener

"The time it never rained", by Elmer Kelton. This book is about a man who refuses all government help and his reasons for refusing to be helped by the government.  Reminds one of Ronald Reagan's quotes..The nine most terrifying words in the English language are, "I'm from the government and I'm here to help.   Great book read it.

HAPPY EASTER TO ALL.

Ann Jillian, Larry McMurtry and remember this one Bebe Rebozzo. Ann's sister in law and I worked together that is how I met her. I remember she had the most beautiful skin and was not in the least impressed with her fame. My husband and I met Larry McMurtry in one of his bookstores. He even took time out to walk with us and show us the last picture show. I have pictures of it somewhere. They were in the process of renovating it. Bebe Rebozzo we met at a party. I went to a dinner party and sat at the same table as the governor does that count. It was Bob Graham and that was years ago.

Writer's Block: Animal Instinct

What creature would you choose as your spirit animal?

My choice would be a wild mustang living on a prairie in the middle of nowhere. Free to come and go as I wish and answering to no one.

Today was a busy day. I listed a freezer we have for sale on craigslist. I got a call and had it sold. Plugged the sucker in and it worked like a charm long enough to freeze some ice. Sometime between dusk and dawn it bit the dust. So I called the girl and told her it was a no go but if she wanted to chance the freezer being fixed she could have it for nothing. This is a fairly new freezer it is not old. Things don't last like they once did. My mother had a 1934 refrigerator with a monitor on top it was still running when she died in 1990. So what is wrong with this picture. My freezer was barely 4 years old it that and had only been run 2 years out of the four years. We have become a throw away society which is hard to accept. We worry about landfills yet we do nothing about companies making products that only last a few years. This is what my father would have called a straining at the gnat and swallowing the camel situation. I don't know how many toasters I have bought in the last few years 3 maybe...guess how many toasters my mother had that I can remember would the number 2 surprise you. They were just put together better and built to last. The reason she had two toasters was after she had grandchildren and in-laws she wanted a four slice toaster. So she bought one that toasted four slices instead of two. That was the company toaster and the two slicer was used when there weren't  so many people for breakfast. This is a small take on why the landfills are filling up.
My second order of the day was to head to the hospital for blood tests and xrays. A couple of weeks ago I had pneumonia and they wanted follow up xrays and some blood tests.
Next we picked up a fig tree and a nectarine tree to plant for future fruit. Last year I had blackberries, peaches, and some wonderful tasting grapes. One day I plan on having an orchard that will supply all of the needs for jams, jellies and preserves. I am like the ant moving the rubber tree plant. I have high hopes.

The nut grass and I.

Rather than think about the financial mess our country is in I will take out my frustrations on hating nut grass. This hate  I have with nut grass didn't start recently it goes back to when I lived in central Florida. We had a neat little garden till the nut grass reared it's ugly head. I would spend my afternoons and any spare time to meticulously pulling each little grass complete with it's nut out of my garden. After toiling Iong and hard I did rid my garden of that pesky little weed.  Now I believe that sucker has followed me all the way up here. My garden is a nut grass haters nightmare it is so rich and vibrant makes me wish it were worth cultivating.  I went out this morning and worked on pulling some of it up but this is almost overwhelming it is so thick.  Our neighbor gave us some weed killer to kill it but I think it fertilized it instead of killing it. Nothing grew in the garden after using the weed killer except the nut grass. We planted some onions and they were pitiful they just didn't grow.  I have decided that one of my hells on earth is nut grass.
I hate nut grass.
The guys have gone dove hunting so I have the house to myself. I think I will go take a nap. My head is hurting and my neck is so stiff. I took some ibuprofen and it hasn't fazed the pain so the next best thing is sleep.

We have finally got some much needed rain here and things are really greening and growing.
The turkeys even have enough sense to get in the chicken house to get out of the rain. They are getting aggressive. When I take treats to them they shove the chickens out of the way to get their share and more. My venture with the poultry is interesting to say the least. I love to watch them. Two of them got out of the yard yesterday when I opened the  gate. So I let them stay out for awhile to eat grass. The other chickens wanted out too. They pushed up against the fence as if to say, "What about us don't we get to go too?"
I had to put the turkeys on some kind of antibiotic. I think they had bronchitis. They seemed to be huffing and puffing quite a bit. The antibiotic helped they are better. I don't think whatever was wrong with them was serious or they would have died. I am almost sorry I bought them and am thinking of giving them away. I always thought turkeys were docile but then maybe they are I just don't know how to judge docile in turkeys.
Today I get to see my oldest son and his two sons. I have baked cookies and boiled penders (peanuts to you who have never heard the term, boiled penders, this is strictly southern). When I was growing up right after W11 people had a lot of pender boilings for get togethers. It was cheap and gave people a chance to visit. "Y'all come."
